Music---May 23, 2010
The other day I went to listen to Wien Boys’Choir at the Stellar Theater in Fujikawaguchiko town. Their voices are of course well trained and beautiful as angels. Yet I was not moved by the voice so much to tell the truth. I asked to myself why. My answer was that I couldn’t understand their language of their songs. Some were sung in Japanese and English. I understood them, but other songs sung in German were not understood. The message of the songs didn’t reach to my heart. Their voices were clear and wonderful in great harmony yet I was not moved. Another reason might be that when I sing in a Gospel Choir, I simply enjoy singing. Listening to music is not my style of how I enjoy music any more. I would like to be on the side of singing not listening.
Today I was in church singing in the Sunday service and in a wedding ceremony at church. The music there might not be so perfect because it was done by all aged choir members. However, the message was straight to my heart as well as to the audience.
Since the Stellar Theater is open air, we could hear the wild birds tweeting as they flew by. I thought the song of the bird and the song of Wien boys are similar to some sense. No message to listeners except beautiful sound.
Well, I would like to be on the side of singing as much as possible.
